Small Step, Giant Leap
Support life. Dig in your heels, stand your ground, and demand stem-cell research along with sufficient funding to fulfill dreams.
Who doesn't miss the whispers of our former Superman, Christopher Reeve, his wife, and Ronald Reagan? Whose heart didn't ache right along with their visible agony and tremendous show of courage? Three cheers for Nancy, too.
It could happen to any of us: a catastrophic accident or a devastating disease. Michael J. says it best, "Let's get back to the future!"
If we are to continue as a progressive society we must recognize opportunity and use our best resources. We have an obligation to do so. That's American.
We don't run the other way from scientific challenge. We manage it; devise ways to deal with it; and move forward.
We don't give in to our knees knocking because of some "what if's." There are always "what if's." They make the world go 'round. Up and down, too.
Competent leaders aren't afraid to take hold of the stem cell research issue, embrace that passion, and declare it's not only the right thing to do -- it's the only reasonable solution. Generalized fears can be calmed by devising an ethical demarcation line with strong penalty for overstepping.
Refuse to settle for less. Our children deserve a quality life. So do our parents.
Once again, with stem-cell research we will take "one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind." Let's do it!
